Make Your Own Beeswax Wrap with 3 Ingredients

craftiviti beeswax wrap (2)Sustainable, reusable and multipurpose, beeswax wraps are the earth-friendly alternative to plastic wraps, cling wrap and single-use plastics. They’re incredibly versatile and can be used to cover containers, wrap solid food, veggies, soaps, candles and more! You won’t have to worry about chemicals leaching into your food or products anymore when you use beeswax wraps.

Moreover, you’ll be able to save some money since beeswax wraps are reusable (simply wash with cold or lukewarm soapy water to clean them) and known to help keep fruit and veggies fresher for a longer time. Wrapping handmade soap bars with beeswax wraps can also reduce the chances of them sweating glycerin dew.

NOTE: As Malaysia can get pretty hot, make sure to keep your beeswax wraps away from heat and sunlight as it may melt and stick onto any surface it’s on.

  1. 100% Cotton or Linen Cloth (35cm x 35cm)
  2. 20g of Organic Yellow Beeswax
  3. 15g of Pine Rosin
  4. 5g of Jojoba Oil

If you have an oven, you’ll need these as well:

  1. Oven
  2. Baking Tray (large enough to lay the cloth flat without folding)
  3. Baking Sheets to line the baking tray

If you don’t have an oven, you’ll need these as well:

  1. Silicone Mat OR Baking Tray lined with Baking Sheets (large enough to lay the cloth flat without folding)
  2. Pot and Stove OR Glass Beaker and Wax Warmer
  3. Heat Gun OR Hair Dryer

Instructions

Using an Oven…

  1. Preheat your oven to its lowest setting.
  2. Lay the cloth flat on a baking tray covered with baking sheets.
  3. Sprinkle all the ingredients evenly on the cloth. Make sure it’s a light layer.
  4. Pop it into the oven for 10 minutes (or until wax is melted).
  5. Remove from oven and quickly run a brush over the cloth to ensure that it’s coated evenly. Peel off the cloth while it’s still warm and hang it up for a few minutes for it to cool.
  6. Your beeswax wrap is now ready to be used!

Using a stove…

  1. Lay the cloth flat on a baking tray covered with baking sheets or a silicone mat.
  2. Melt all the ingredients in a pot over a stove/glass beaker over a wax warmer. Keep an eye on it so it doesn’t over-boil or over-heat.
  3. Once melted, quickly brush an even layer of the mixture on your cloth. If the mixture hardens halfway, melt it again using your stove, or if it’s on the cloth, use a heat gun or a hairdryer on high heat and low wind speed.
  4. Peel off the cloth while it’s still warm and hang it up for a few minutes for it to cool.
  5. Your beeswax wrap is now ready to be used!
